The league, which began in 1998 by Moline Maroon Matthew Veto has suck around with over 800 players participating in the slow pitch free adult baseball league. This year's season hopes to be the best yet.
Veto League - or "VLB" - as it's known, is actively recruiting new players for the new season. Last year the league had the fewest games played in years and hopes to rebound in a big way, much like how the 2020 season played out, when the league played 79 games with a record number of total players.
Three captains return this season - Alex Miller's Cannons, Mason Overmire's Hitters and Josh Paul's Goonies. Kyle Kent will debut as a new captain with his team to round out the competition. While Kent has yet to select a name for his expansion team, the echos of "Supermen" can be heard from dugouts near and far.
This year the league will schedule games on Saturdays only, with start time slated at 11:00. Player dependent, the league could grow into another weeknight game in addition to the Saturday. Sundays will be reserved for rain makeups.
As always, VLB is **FREE** to play in, and there is no commitment. Show up and you'll be drafted on a team for that day. Stats and schedule will be posted soon, so stay tuned for more info. Also, you can find Veto League on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/508070645923505.
At the winter meetings, three rules were voted on and passed:
1) A batter must run for himself to first (no pinch runners from home to 1st)
2) In a 9-on-9 (or fewer) game, you must play the field if you're going to bat
3) In a "pitch to your own team" scenario, a routine pop fly to the pitcher is an automatic out
In attendance for the March 26th Winter Meetings included: Branden Bollman, Amber Kilgard, Alex Miller, Edwin Moore, Mason Overmire, Josh Paul and Luke Spratt.
