To award this year's most dedicated players, the VLB is hosting another night game, this time moving ballparks from Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport to Douglas Park in Rock Island. The move is due to Modern Woodmen Park cutting down on "non-essential" on-the-field activities, despite the VLB having collected nearly 5,000 pounds of food for the River Bend Foodbank in its years at Modern Woodmen.
The VLB will once again be teaming up with the River Bend Foodbank, asking players and spectators alike to bring non-perishable foods as entry into the game. Everyone who brings such item(s) will receive a raffle ticket for a chance at a number of gift cards at local establishments.
Douglas Park is located at 9th Street and 18th Avenue in Rock Island. While the VLB has played hundreds of games at this complex, this will be the league's first name game played at Douglas.
Ceremonies begin at 6:30. Concessions will be sold with proceeds going toward league equipment such as baseballs, bats and gloves. The game should be finished around 9 pm. Captains will be Ryan Barton's Gremlins and Jeff Kilgard's Crushers.
