It was a perfect Saturday at Ridgewood Field with the High Rollers and Playaz each coming into the game at 1-1. Michael Holst, captain for the High Rollers was not there and so Mark Wishnia was a sub captain. There was no shortage of runs in the extra inning 14-13 victory for The Playaz. Anthony Reese, Scott Raes and Sean Castagnoli all went 4-6 for The Playaz. Raes also drove in 4 runs.
All but two players in the 9 player Playaz lineup had at least one RBI. DJ Borkovec and Scott Raes also both hit home runs for The Playaz. Kevin Powell led the losing High Rollers going 4-6 with 4 RBI and a double. The game ended in 8 innings following a brilliant base running effort for the High Rollers.
With a runner advancing to third in the final at-bat, the hitter chose to round first and head towards second to attempt to get caught in a rundown. The fielders did not notice the runner at third dart for home and The Playaz defeated The High Rollers in dramatic fashion. Following the game, many players left and therefore only one game was played.
On Sunday, it was another perfect day. Following two 7-inning games, and despite only 12 players remaining, it was decided that a third 5-inning game would be played.
Game one featured The High Rollers again against The Goonies. The High Rollers got off to a hot start leading The Playaz 6-1 after three innings of play. But in the 4th inning, The Goonies made things interesting putting up a 5 spot to tie the game. However, The High Rollers pulled away in the latter two innings scoring a total of 7 more runs while The Goonies were unable to bring home another runner for the remainder of the game scored just one more run in the 13-7 loss.
Jason Riordan led the winning Playaz team going 4-5 with a pair of RBI and a double. Scott Raes hit another homerun Sunday and drove in 3 but it was not enough for The Goonies who struggled offensively most of the game.
In game two, it was The Playaz and Goonies and it was The Goonies who again struggled offensively in a 12-5 defeat. For The Playaz, three players had at least three hits and Sean Castagnoli led the team with 4 RBI. Kevin O'Neill had 3 RBI. Tim DeBroeck led the losing team with 3 RBI.
