Unfortunately, it was indeed for only one game. Saturday's games were originally scheduled for Ridgewood Field but the conditions were unplayable. Rock Island High School canceled their double header at Douglas Park and the games were moved there.
However Douglas Park also had less than ideal playing conditions but it was good enough to get one nine inning game in.
The Goonies were home against the Phenoms and they were firing on all cylinders. The Goonies' 22 hits and 16 runs couples with a poor defensive effort by the Phenoms resulted in a 16-7 victory for the Goonies. The Goonies remain undefeated and move to 4-0 on the season.
In Veto's return to his former league, he went 3-6 with a run and 2 RBI for the Goonies. Kevin Powell and DJ Borkovec each led the Goonies with 4 runs a piece and Josh Paul had 3 runs of his own. Paul also led his squad with 4 RBI. Powell had 3 RBI.
Scott Raes, captain for the losing Phenoms, had an inside the park homerun and finished the day with 3 RBI but unfortunately did not get much support from the rest of his team. The Phenoms fell to an abysmal 1-4 on the young season.
Saturday's game featured 16 total players. The next set of games is slated for Sunday, May 5 at Douglas Park at 11:30. With more afternoon rain following the conclusion of Saturday's game, playing conditions on Sunday are expected to once again be less than ideal. Whether or not Sunday will feature a double header or just one game again will be made at game time.
