The 33 players who came to Ridgewood Field in Rock Island on Saturday, May 28, was the players for a day game in years. The box score looked more like a 3-year old's drawing with lines added to the hand written scorecard. Included in the 33 players were eight debuts.
As for the season, 10 games have been played in the 2022 season, with Mason Overmire's Heavy Hitters atop the standings at 4-1, followed by Josh Paul's Goonies (3-2), Alex Miller's Cannons (2-3) and Kyle Kent's Katanas (1-4). Four players still have a perfect attendance -- Edwin Moore, Branden Bollman, Miller and Overmire.
The veteran Alex Miller has played 187 consecutive games, dating back to May 4, 2019. The record is 200 games, set by Anthony Reese from 2008 - 2012.
By popular vote, the league has switched "home fiends" from the rugged Northwest Park to the all-dirt infield at Ridgewood in Rock Island. Northwest was in rough shape as the city crews have failed to maintain the infield all year.
Double headers will continue on Saturdays at Ridgewood, beginning at 11 am and usually ending around 2:30 pm.
