The event is based around the passing of long-time Veto Leaguer Jeff Kilgard, who passed away in 2017 to a medical condition. Kilgard had helped run Veto League for a number of years and was always a fixture on the mound. Kilgard is joined by many others over the league's 25 years who have unfortunately passed away. The list includes notable veterans Josh Smith, Kaylen Eickstaedt, Colby Moore and others.
Thirty-three players participated in the Memorial Game, which doubles as a fundraiser with local Quad City non-profit Foster's Voice. The Goonies pulled off the victory in the preset 10-inning game as Jim Goff plated two runs on a single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th for the 11-10 victory over Mason Overmire's Hitters.
The fundraiser collected $425 for Foster's Voice, which is a community outreach helping those suffering with depression and mental illness. Over the three years, VLB has raised nearly $1,500 to help Foster's Voice.
