Veto League's highly anticipated final game of the season is on the schedule. Saturday, September 23rd, will feature 24 of the league's most dedicated players playing under the lights of Douglas Park in Rock Island. Awards, National Anthem, player introductions and other fun stuff will begin at 7, with first pitch slated for 7:30.
Captains for the 2023 contest will be Mason Overmire's "Heavy Hitters" against Kyle Kent's "Katanas". The top 24 players who have played the most games will receive an invite. Fans and players are encouraged to bring non-perishables for a food drive for the River Bend Foodbank. President Josh Paul hopes to bring in 417 pounds, which would push the 14-year total to five tons (10,000 pounds).
All fans attending the game will receive a complimentary raffle ticket for their chance to win one of 100 raffle baskets. Additional tickets will be sold on the low, with proceeds going toward the league. Additionally, each player will pay $10 to play in the game which goes toward field rental, trophies and new baseballs.
The league has played at a variety of fields for their annual "All-Star Classic" - Richmond Hill (Geneseo), Modern Woodmen Park (Davenport), Saldivar Field (Bettendorf) and Northwest Park (Davenport). The night game became a VLB tradition in 2004, when the league had a mid-season night game, played in Geneseo at Richmond Hill.
