The game will feature VLB's most dedicated players as they square off in one last game of the season. In a "Night to Remember", VLB is once again teaming up with the River Bend FoodBank to collect non-perishable food donations. In the league's history, VLB has raised well over 2,000 pounds of food. Finally, VLB will pay a tribute to two of the league's most dedicated players in its 20-year history: Jeff Kilgard and Josh Smith.
Both Kilgard and Smith passed away in 2017 due to heart complications. Smith (1/21/84 - 4/15/17) was known by Veto Leaguers for the exciting attitude and spirit he brought with him each and every week to the diamond. Smith began playing Veto League in 2006. He ranks 8th all-time in games played (215). In his obituary photo, Smith is proudly wearing his Veto League jersey.
Kilgard (12/23/81 - 8/7/17) made an impact on each and every Veto Leaguer to ever play. He was one of the most passionate players to ever play in the league and he took the role of Vice President after Matt Veto left in 2011. Kilgard kept track of stats, updated box scores, maintained the schedule, sent roll call emails and would frequently haul gear to and from each field. Kilgard ranks 2nd among VLBers in career games played (537).
Festivities will begin at 6:30 with announcements, lineups, presentations, National Anthem, awards, and more. First pitch is tenatively slated for 7:00 pm. Concessions will also be offered up, so please bring non-perishable goods and come hungry!
