In attendance were Scott Ellefritz, Josh Paul, Ryan Barton, Scott Raes, Kevin Powell, Mark Wishnia, DJ Borkovec, Tim Hawkins and Chris Waldron. Topics included a new rule change, season opener, new equipment, captain division selection and the new website.
In a vote that passed 7-2, captains will no longer be allowed to pitch themselves against the opposing team. Reasoning behind the decision was that captains have at times been suspected of throwing “junk” pitches to help their team win their game, which is in violation of Rule 1.02. Kilgard’s response to the new rule was, “Dumb. I vote captains can’t hit in their own games.” The motion for a vote was made by Barton and was seconded by Paul.
The 2013 Veto League Baseball season will open April 13-14 at Douglas Park.
Equipment purchases shall include: four dozen baseballs, new rubber bases, bat grip tape and a shade tarp. Ellefritz made a motion to purchase a pitching machine. After discussion, a vote was split 4-4 to conduct further investigation into the pros and cons of purchasing a pitching machine. Ellefritz agreed to look into the logistics and will report back at a later date.
Captains were selected. The Saukie division will feature Paul’s “Goonies”, Mike Holst’s “High Rollers” and new captain Scott Raes’ “Phantoms”. The Black Hawk division will showcase Jeff Kilgard’s “Crushers”, Anthony Reese’s “Playaz” and Ryan Barton will bring back the “Gremlins”.
Also unveiled was the VLB’s new website, www.thevlb.com (or also newly acquired vetoleague.com and vetoleaguebaseball.com).
