The 2016 Veto League season will kick off with Saturday/Sunday games on April 30 and May 1, game time 11:30, location to be determined. After the first weekend, VLB will host games on Saturday only, with Sunday reserved for rainouts. This will be the same as last year.
This season's four captains were announced as long-time coaches Josh Paul and Jeff Kilgard, with two new coaches, Donny Reul and Tyler Mulder. Reul and Mulder were both rookies in 2015. Captains are based primarily on games played from the previous season, with additional credit given toward league leadership.
Equipment needs were brought up. Prior to the 2015 season, the league purchased a new L-screen. The only necessities at this time are baseballs and rubber bases.
The only potential rule changed discussed was Kilgard's proposal that the opposing team's captain can not bat for their own team. This rule was turned down in a vote of 4-1.
Players discussed potential ideas for recruiting, as this will be the key to the success of the 2016 season. The last three years have shown a decline in VLB participation. In 2012, VLB welcomed 69 new players, with 51 debuting in 2013 and just 38 and 35 in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
League President Josh Paul asks all members to spread the word about the league and recruit, recruit, recruit. Players can be directed to the website's "Join the VLB" link or text Paul at 563-529-3462 for more info on the league.
