From Greg ‘Assman’ Asleson to ‘Big’ Jim Wince we had 76 different players participate in Veto League Baseball this year making it, in my opinion, the greatest season we have yet encountered. The VLB, as you guys have come to call it, started in the back of Mr. Schnooberger’s computer class when I typed out a list of players that said they wanted to participate. Since then, we have grown immensely both as a league, and as people.
We have a website, statistics, rosters, and hopefully for next year, trading cards. Maybe next year we can do jerseys and enhance our stat-keeping.
Some people might say, “Boy, aren’t you taking this ‘little’ league of yours a little too far?” I hope that all of us can answer, “Who cares! It’s fun!” When they join the VLB, I think they’ll feel the same way.
One of the things I think I enjoyed most was to look at the statistics and inflated averages at the beginning of the season compared to the playoffs and World Series. Every single person that played consistently improved. Defensively, we improved a ton.
I hope that all of you can come back again next year to play. It makes me happy to think that some of you start looking forward to this in the spring. If there are any changes that you think we could make to improve our league, let me know.
I don’t know what will happen with me next year. In broadcasting you usually don’t stay around too long. On the other hand, you usually don’t get a job very quickly either! I hope that someone else will be able to pick up for me in case I have to retire.
Until that comes, keep recruiting players throughout the year, keep spreading the word of Veto League Baseball, give people our website, and keep giving them the reason behind why we do everything; For the love of the game.
I want to thank you all for one of the best summers that I have ever had and hope to have again next summer.
